Functional Braces
These braces are a type of removable brace which need to be worn all the time, including sleeping and eating if possible. These braces are designed to help bring your lower jaw forward.
The brace comes in two separate parts, a top removable brace and a bottom removable brace, which fit together in the mouth. Each piece has clips which grip onto the teeth holding it in place. Both the top and bottom pieces have plastic blocks on it which slot together in the mouth helping to hold the bottom jaw forward. This brace usually takes 9-12 months to work and will need adjusting by your orthodontist every 6-8 weeks. Functional appliances are often used as a first stage in treatment which takes approximately 12 months and will be followed by a further 12-18 months of fixed braces to fully straighten the teeth.
